Expanding Prosthetic Care in Guyana with 3D Printing

PVA Med is proud to support advancements in patient care beyond our own borders. As part of our commitment to expanding global access to prosthetic technology, we recently donated an Emergence PRO™ 3D Printer to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre in Guyana, in collaboration with Northwell Health.

This initiative reflects a core belief at PVA Med: high-quality care should not be limited by geography. By placing advanced technology directly into the hands of clinicians, we aim to help improve outcomes where they are needed most.

Expanding Access Through Donation

Access to reliable prosthetic solutions remains a challenge in many parts of the world, where traditional fabrication methods can be time-intensive and difficult to scale.

This donation, received by the Ministry of Health in Guyana, marks a meaningful step forward in expanding access to modern prosthetic care, where the technology will be used to enhance clinical capabilities and patient outcomes.

Enabling a Digital Workflow

The Emergence PRO™ supports a streamlined, end-to-end workflow from scan to design to production, bringing modern capabilities into clinical environments that benefit from increased efficiency.

One of the most critical components of a prosthetic device is the socket, which connects the residual limb to the prosthesis. When poorly fitted, it can lead to discomfort, tissue damage, and even device abandonment.

In this workflow, clinicians can produce a patented Walk Strong™ Check Socket as part of the fitting process. This allows patients to test the fit and feel of their prosthetic before moving forward with a final device.

By using a digitally produced check socket instead of traditional plaster methods, clinicians can make faster adjustments and ensure a more accurate fit early in the process. This not only improves comfort and confidence for the patient but also helps reduce the risk of costly remakes and delays.

With digital scanning and 3D printing, clinicians can now create highly precise, patient-specific sockets, improving fit, reducing production time, and enhancing overall quality of life for patients.

In addition to the donation, PVA Med supported hands-on training to ensure clinicians are equipped to successfully implement this technology. Ongoing collaboration will continue to support the team in Guyana as they integrate digital workflows into their prosthetic services.

PVA Med’s Mission

At PVA Med, our mission is to empower clinicians with accessible, high-performance technology that enhances patient outcomes.

We do not just develop products; we support the broader clinical community through innovation, training, and global initiatives that expand access to care. This donation is one example of that commitment in action.

A Word from Our Leadership

“We are incredibly proud to partner with Northwell Global Health to help make this important donation possible. By providing an Emergence PRO V3 3D printer along with the essential tools and supplies, we’re honored to support the Ministry of Health, Guyana – Rehabilitation and Disability Services Programme in advancing their national 3D printing initiative.

This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to expanding access to high‑quality prosthetic and orthotic care. We are truly thankful for the partnership between PVA, Northwell Global Health, and the Ministry of Health Guyana, and we are excited to see how this technology will strengthen local capabilities in the efficient production of prosthetic sockets, limbs, and orthotic devices.

At PVA Med, one of our core missions is to empower clinicians and health systems around the world by improving the accessibility and efficiency of O&P services through advanced manufacturing solutions—including our Emergence PRO 3D printer, the Carver PRO‑S, and our Rapid Plaster slicing software. We look forward to seeing how this donation will support clinicians in Guyana and enhance care for the patients they serve.”
